How to Clean Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies, by design, get dirty. It’s essential to clean them regularly.
You wouldn’t use a dirty toothbrush or comb, so why clean your apartment with contaminated cleaning supplies? Keep reading to learn how to clean your cleaning supplies.

How to Clean a Vacuum

Regular cleaning of canister, upright, and hand vacuums is essential for proper functioning. Gather scissors, hot water, and dish soap to clean your vacuum.
Empty the dirt bag or cup before starting. Use soap and hot water to wash the cup (if your vacuum has one).
Next, clean the brush roll by cutting off any hair or string tangled around it using scissors. Remember to clean the hose and replace the filter as needed to prevent debris buildup.

How to Clean a Mop Head

Easily clean your mop head by using your washing machine. Use heavy-duty laundry detergent and set the water temperature to the highest setting.
It is not efficient to clean the mop head separately, so wash it with towels, rugs, and rags.

How to Clean a Broom

Just like any other tool, your broom needs proper cleaning and maintenance. Debris can get stuck in the bristles.
To remove this debris, take your broom outside and sweep the edge of a step. To clean the base of the bristles attached to the broom pole, use a bucket of hot water and dish soap.
Dip the broom in soapy water, swirl it around, and then clean the bristles. Allow the broom to air dry by hanging it with its bristles down.

How to Clean Sponges and Brushes

Sponges and brushes can be cleaned with hot water, bleach, and a bucket or sink. Rinse the sponge with hot water after every use and set it upright to dry.
To clean brushes, mix 1/2 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of hot water and let the brushes and sponges soak for 10 minutes.

How to Clean a Duster

To ensure maximum efficiency, clean your reusable duster after each use. A large bucket or sink, dish soap, and warm water are all you need.
After each use, shake the duster out vigorously outside, and tap the handle against a hard surface to remove dust. Then, immerse the duster in a solution of warm water and dish soap for a few minutes, squeeze it out, and hang it up to dry.

How to Clean a Cleaning Bucket

Dirt and grime will inevitably build up in your cleaning bucket. It’s critical to regularly clean your bucket to prevent spreading filth every time you clean.
Use a disinfectant, hot water, and a sponge to clean the bucket. Fill a spray bottle with the disinfectant and disperse the entire bucket.
Allow the disinfectant to sit for ten minutes before scrubbing the bucket with the sponge. You will know the bucket is clean when the dirt spots recede and flow to the bottom while scrubbing.
Rinse the bucket with warm water to prevent the dirt you scrubbed away from building up in the bottom of the bucket. Wipe the bucket with an old towel or cleaning rag before setting it upside-down to dry on the same towel (or rag).
